After enjoying a delicious lunch, we can indulge in some mouth-watering Hungarian desserts and complete the experience with a fantastic wine tasting.

Hungary’s most beautiful neo-classical castle

The Sándor-Metternich Castle, also known as the “Devil’s Rider Castle”, is located in a picturesque village, Bajna, just 50 kms from the capital.

Beside the Sándor Palace in the Buda Castle District the Sándor family had several country residences, including one in Bajna. Sándor Móric, the famous “Devil’s Rider,” decided to modernize the castle,as  he wanted to please his future wife, Leontina Metternich. Thanks to his efforts, we can be proud of one of Hungary’s most beautiful neo-classical castle complexes, which has been fully renovated and awaits visitors.

Móric Sándor and Paulina Sándor were the darlings of the world’s tabloids. Móric became famous for his daring stunts and reckless riding. Visitors can experience the count’s equestrian feats and daring horsemanship directly through a VR simulation station. Also his daughter Paulina Metternich-Sándor was famous in 19th century Europe. Paulina was a fashion icon who spent a lot of time in Vienna, Dresden and Paris. She became a defining figure of European haute-couture and cultural life.

After visiting the castle in Bajna, we take a trip to Zsámbék.

Europe’s First Lamp Museum in Hungary

The lamp museum features an enormous private collection of Ferenc Borus. The collection includes lamps ranging from ancient Roman oil lamps to candlesticks of former princes, and even modern railway lamps. Currently 1000-1100 lighting items can be found in the only Lamp Museum in Hungary, which also has been listed in the Guinness Book of Records since 1995.

After the fulfilling and enjoyable lunch at a restaurant near the museum we continue our full-day trip in Zsámbék.

Amazing Medieval Church Ruin

Zsámbék, a village located about 30 kms from Budapest, is home to a church that is one of the most beautiful examples of medieval Hungarian architecture, reflecting French influences and both late Romanesque and early Gothic style elements.

The 800-year-old ruin in Zsámbék is a unique architectural masterpiece, and the fact that half of the building is missing makes it extremely interesting. The three-nave, basilica-style church has two Romanesque-style façade towers, a pointed roof, a rose window and a pointed arch doorway. The remaining stone spire of the southern tower, with its fine curves, is considered a curiosity in Hungary. The ruins of the former Premonstratensian monastery are located next to the church. It is worth visiting the ruin also for the stunning view of the surrounding hills and for good photography opportunities.

Relaxing Coffee Break in Zsámbék

The cozy Kálmán Confectionery in Zsámbék is the perfect place to relax and enjoy delicious Hungarian pastries and cakes, such as Krémes (vanilla custard cream between two thin, flaky pastry layers and powdered sugar on top) and Rákóczi Túrós (a cottage cheese cake with a crumbly pastry crust and cottage cheese filling, topped with sweet meringue made from egg whites) or various salty scones.

As a closing program, we participate in a wonderful wine tasting to enjoy Hungarian wines.

Enchanting Wine Tasting Experience
